National Steel and Shipbuilding Company Case Study
Savings of $200,000 after 10 years
A controlled study of wood vs. ASAP pallets was conducted over 15 months within the Structural Steel Area of NASSCO. This area was chosen because of the more demanding environment of the Structural Steel Area. Pallets in this environment are exposed to heavier steel parts and static loads stacked as much as 10 pallets high.
Parts/Loads/Conditions
- Each of the pallets in the study were loaded with various types of parts; angles, bulb plates, flat bar, plates.
- Loads ranged from 51 lbs to 1000 lbs.
- Pallets were exposed to different forklift operators, weather elements, and production conditions, i.e. dirt, oil, metal, heat, etc.
Results after 15 months
- RPL pallets had little to no damage
- Wood pallets had extensive and severe damage
- RPL pallets last 200 times longer than wood
- RPL pallets were built to handle 100,000 lb loads
- RPL pallets eliminate product damage due to skid failure
- RPL pallets are compatible with existing equipment
- RPL pallets can be custom designed for virtually any application
- RPL pallets are environmentally friendly
- RPL pallets are impervious to water, chemicals, and UV rays.
